Apala signifies “most beautiful” in Sanskrit. Each design at Apala reflects exclusive style, mood and craftsmanship, made to perfection by some of India’s finest artisans. It is handcrafted with care, thought and vision, keeping in mind different personalities.
Sumit Sawhney, the designer created brand Apala in 2006 to satisfy India’s growing demand for luxury jewellery with a contemporary edge, as well as the international market’s craving for aesthetic and incredible Indian treasures.Apala’s fine silver jewellery is combined with precious and semi-precious stones and layered with 22 karat gold.
Sumit is renowned for his signature jewellery style fusion. Drawing inspiration from the world art, architecture, nature and spirituality, he combines them with his contemporary bold twist.
Apala’s unique creations are appreciated by jewellery aficionados, patronised by who’s who and have been adorned by celebrities like Deepika Padukone, Sonam Kapoor, Nargis Fakhri, Soha Ali Khan, Vidya Balan, Shraddha Kapoor, Mugdha Godse, Lara Dutta, Lisa Haydon.
Sharing my pick from his two collections:
“The Tomb Collection”: Deeply influenced by the ornamentation on tombs and the architectural formations, Apala’s tomb jewellery collection has his contemporary and mughal twist, which evokes love to the wearer and takes you to the era of beauty. Through this collection Sumit celebrates royal mughal era of love as he remembers his walks at the tombs in Delhi as a kid. His fascination towards the tombs, the architecture, textures of the stones, detailing on the ceilings, carvings and doors, inlays and jalis are immense inspiration for him to dedicate his latest jewellery collection. . Bollywood Diva Tapsee Pannu adorns Apala’s Tomb collection jewellery and looks enchanting during the promotion of movie BABY. Tapsee oozes out majestic finess integrated with royalty and looks resplendent in beautiful silver jewellery.
“Zen Fusion Collection”: A style to promote the feelings of serenity with a Zen inspired piece. In this collection Sumit combines aesthetically the pure Zen nature with the traditional Indian and modern fusion. He combines Buddhist motifs and scriptures in an eclectic form with Intricate hand carved Indian motifs. It is believed that by meditating on the individual colors, which contain their respective essences and are associated with a particular buddha or bodhisattva, spiritual transformations can be achieved. While designing the collection Sumit has used bright Tibetian colours and South East Asian Motifs.
Sonam Kapoor has adorned beautiful earings from Zen Fusion Collection with her beautiful dress. Incorporated centrally with Goddess Tara in carved turquoise gemstone, combined with pink tourmaline and quartz polki. Silver with 22 kt gold layering.
