“What is made from the heart is a masterpiece.”
– Laura Jaworski
King of Opulence, JJ Valaya presented his latest couture collection, MURAQQA, at India Couture Week 2024. MURAQQA means an album of beautiful art. It showed his deep admiration for Ottoman art & culture from the royal era, which reflected not only in his collection, but in the stage decoration, too. The hall of the magnificent property in the National capital, “The Taj Palace”, was decorated as Istanbul market of erstwhile era, where princes and princesses did come to shop and enjoy the luxury.
This season’s 60-piece collection showcased a fusion of rich textiles, fine crafts, and exquisite detailing across three distinctive themes. The Istanbul theme draws from Ottoman intricacies and art deco lines, while Isfahan reinterprets Persian carpets and miniature paintings with a contemporary twist. The couture showcased Mughal inlays intertwined with flora and fauna motifs. Valaya’s couture Muraqqa paired with Isvari Jalandhar Jewellery House, made models look like real life princes and princesses of bygone era adorning the ramp.
Mr.J J Valaya, a founding member of the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI), continues to captivate with the timeless allure of the House of Valaya since its inception in 1992. Each season, Valaya’s creative passion reinvents this exceptional legacy, blending classic modernity to enchant elegant men and women worldwide.
MURAQQA featured custom woven silks, lush velvets, and an array of silhouettes including lehengas, saris, evening jackets, sherwanis, Nehru jackets, and bundgala jackets. Accessories such as stoles and shawls complement the ensemble, adorned with unique embroidery techniques and prints that reflect the brand’s Royal Nomad DNA and Art Deco influences. Embellishments include aged metal, silk threads, beads, and crystals in seasonal colors, enhancing the grandeur of Indian couture.
